Chinese Food

So the Olympics ceremony was on and Thomas was watching it on TV this morning. When the little girl in the red dress started singing, in Chinese, Thomas asks:

“What’s she saying Mummy?”

to which Luci replied,

“I don’t know any Chinese darling.”

Thomas then says,

“So you just know Chinese food and that’s all??”

Bless him.

Can’t Wait For Everything

This afternoon when Luci arrived home, her Mum relayed this funny story…

Lyn takes Thomas and Lachlan shopping with her every Thursday. They usually go and visit Luci’s Grandma (who they call Granma Max) at a nursing home called John Whittle House. They went again today and as they walked up the hall toward my grandmother’s room my Mum warned Thomas about the death of my grandmother’s roommate – it happened over the weekend. She said, “Now you know that Grace has gone to Heaven and so she doesn’t share the room with Granma Max anymore.” Thomas replied in his usual matter-of-fact way, “Well, I wish she had waited to die until I got here because I would’ve liked to watch and see what happened so that I know what happens for when I die.”

Luci was speechless but when she told me the story I thought it was hilarious!!

Great Soccer Skills

I was surprised today when one of my colleagues asked if it was my Thomas Gray in the paper today. I quickly rushed to the paper and read the following:

2008 Rooball Carnival

Thomas had his first Rooball Carnival on today. Thomas played 4 games today, each game having 10 minute halves. He went really well for the first couple of games, but by the fourth game you could tell that not only he, but the rest of his team also, were lacking in concentration. 😆

His first game was against South Dubbo Wanderers Power, his next game was against Orana Spurs, then Narromine Tigers and lastly Westside Red.

It was a very cold day (as it always is for the Rooball Carnival, apparently), but Luci helped keep us warm by packing the big jackets, beanies and some warm milo.

Lachlan enjoyed the day, swapping his Woody toy for Hamish’s Buzzy toy (even though he has his own Buzzy at home!!) and even joining in for a kick of the ball against the big kids during one of the breaks!!

Thomas was very proud of his trophy, and quickly cleared off some space on his dresser to display it.

Hope you enjoy the photos.

Thomas’ 5th Birthday

Today was Thomas’ 5th Birthday – it’s hard to believe.

He got up in the morning and opened his presents from Lachlan and Mum and Dad. Lachlan gave him Thomas some books, a Toy Story puzzle, and a Connect 4 game. Mum & Dad gave him a new, bigger bike.

Katie & Greg gave him a Hungry Hungry Hippos game, which proved to be a hit with both Thomas and Lachlan!!

In the afternoon, we had the family over for afternoon tea and birthday cake.

And Lachlan, couldn’t resist giving a cheesy smile at the end of the day.

Thomas’ 5th Birthday Party

P1000748.JPGWe held Thomas’ 5th Birthday Party today. It was actually his first real birthday party – you know – with his own friends. Thomas wanted to have a spooky theme, so Luci created an invitation for Thomas to give to five of his friends from pre-school. Thomas decided to invite Clay, Jesse, Riley, Katie and Sorelle. Unfortunately, Clay had his cousin’s birthday party on the same day as Thomas’ party, so wasn’t able to make it.

We got up in the morning and set about decorating the house and table and getting out the food:

Did you like those cakes with snakes crawling out of them? What about the Ghost Biscuits?

Luci set up some games for the kids to play:

  • Ghost, Ghost, Witch (like Duck, Duck, Goose)
  • Eyeball & Spoon race (like egg & spoon race – Luci found some rubber eyeballs from the $2 shop)
  • Pass the Revolting Parcel (complete with some scary prizes)
  • Pin the Eyes on the Ghost
  • Swampy Sludge dig (Luci hid some coins in a revolting green mixture of porridge)

Then we had the cake – a spooky bat cave.

Thomas did enjoy his party. Here’s what he had to say afterwards.

So, do you want a beer?

Thomas had Special Persons Day at pre-school, with Poppy Gray being the Special Person invited. Poppy Gray was telling me what happened:

Thomas was showing me around, and he took me into one of the cubby houses which was set up as a Police Station. Thomas started to tell me how if the alarm starts to go off, we have to quickly rush out to the emergency. Then Thomas took me to the next cubby house, which was set up like a lounge/dining room – tables and chairs, etc. Thomas sits down on one of the chairs and says to me, “So Poppy, do you want a beer?”

Of course, Poppy then had to look around and make sure no one had heard what Thomas had said… people would be thinking we were alcoholics or something!!

Thomas’ Pre-School Tea Towels

We collected Thomas’ Pre-School Tea Towels today. These were done as a fundraiser for the pre-school, with each child drawing a picture of themselves. When I asked Thomas what was on his head, he said:

It’s a helmet, in case it rains!

By way of comparison, here’s the picture Thomas drew of himself for the 2007 tea towel.

Gmail Accounts for all

After reading about how Google asked for stories about how people are using Gmail, I watched the video below (included) and got inspired! 🙂

I immediately set up a Google account and Gmail address for both Thomas and Lachlan.

I, too, will give them the password when they’re older to enjoy reading what our thoughts were about them throughout the years.

If you’d like to take part in this little project, contact me and I’ll give you their email address so you can participate.

You have to say it loud

Luci was telling me that she was sitting on the lounge with the boys today, when Lachlan let out a little quiet fart. Luci leaned over and told him to say “Pardon Me.”

Lachlan said “Pardon Me” very quietly.

At this point Thomas chimes in, rather loudly, to tell Lachlan, “No Lachlan, you have to say it loud enough so your bum hears!!
